Okay, because I have an inability to NOT try to make as much info possible as I can for my friends and family that live far away, I'm going to try to post on this blog as often as I do my personal blog...bear with me. I'm doing a sort of starter post for where we are right now as a jumping off point.
Dan and I have been married for 9 1/2 years and living in Michigan now. He LOVES it here and I have really mixed feelings. I don't mind the weather that much after the awful winter we had last year is over (coldest, most snowy winter in 30 years) and prefer it to the hot, humid Georgia summers. I
love being close to the Michigan family and adore all of them. I
love the idea that we're only five hours (give or take) away from my IL family including my very best friend, Cari, who's expecting a baby boy in July. I
love being able to watch Redwings games without having to buy the special cable package. On the other hand, I have not had good experiences with the school system, haven't met a ton of people that I really meshed with, and I just miss my support system of family and friends in Georgia. Still, Dan has pretty steady work and we have a roof over our head, cars in the driveway, and so on and so forth....God has truly blessed us.
Alyssa just turned nine years old. It's sort of unbelievable she's aging into double digits next year...and scary for someone who's not exactly a pro at dealing with teenagers. She is starting a cheer class in the next couple of weeks and trying that on for size. She hasn't exactly fallen in love with any activities yet and we're just going to keep trying until she finds something that she loves. She is very artistic and a really great writer. She insists that she wants to be a teacher someday and definitely has the heart of authority to do it. She is doing great in school this year and surpassing all of the goals set for her as well as making some good friends. She's getting out of the cartoon and baby doll age and into the "Hannah Montana"/"Wizards of Waverly Place" stage with a vengeance. Instead of toys, she wants I-pods and CDs and so on and so forth.
Anthony turned seven last fall. He's definitely still an artie-smartie and really into learning. He's definitely developing alot more "boy habits" and rough-housing on a regular basis with his brother. He's very into drawing and is quite a good artist. He's relatively laid-back and very inquisitive. He also loves to challenge himself scholastically. He's into building rather intricate lego towns and driving his trains through them but he is also into his superheroes and so on and so forth.
Daniel Andrew turned five in the fall and started kindergarten. He is full of energy and verve and has really developed into quite an outgoing, cool kid. He's very inquisitive and very smart. He loves to learn and is a computer NUT! He would just as soon read or play with a learning toy than build or play with cars/trains but he is all about doing anything active from rough-housing with his brother to climbing to playing ball. He loves superheroes and is in the phase of "good guys vs bad guys."
Sydney is about to turn four and is every bit the diva she has been since birth. She thinks her older sister is the best thing since sliced bread. She's got a hysterical personality and comes out with some of the funniest sayings that I've ever heard. She's very loving and cuddly when she wants to be but is an entertainer full time. The karaoke machine she got for Christmas has been put to good use through many a round of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" and the Disney Princess songs.
Our 10 year old dog is our good and faithful pooch to this day. She's a lazy old girl who doesn't like to play much and prefers to sleep. She's a spoiled old girl who knows where her treats are and will stand there with her nose near the treats until I get her one though she will perform her standard doggy tricks for them. She's our "first baby" and we adore her.
Well that gives a jumping off point and I will post pictures in the future with future posts.
